Winter Shawnessy Barn Calgary Wedding

A few words from Whitney about her and Mark:

It was March and Mark really wanted to go on a hike.. Crazy right? I thought so too but he seemed so excited about it I said "why not!". So we parked at the trailhead the night before and spent the night sleeping in his truck. We woke up the next morning to pouring rain. Shortly after our tailgate breakfast we started our ascent. As we climbed the rain turned to sleet, which then turned to snow. It was so bad at points that you had to swing from tree to tree due to the ice. lol. When we got to the top Mark suggested we walk around the lake that was at the top of the hike. We sunk deeper in the snow with each step we took around the lake, to the point where the snow was up to my knees.

*One thing I forgot to mention is that Mark was much slower than me on the hike (this is not typical) and that I caught him talking to himself several times as we hiked.

We decided that the snow was far too deep to continue around the lack so we decided to head back from where we came. Just as we were about to start climbing down the mountain Mark asked if I had to go to the bathroom. I said I was fine. He asked me again.. and again I said I was fine. He said "well I'm going to go then". Mark disappeared into the bushes and shortly after I heard him yell "come look at this rock!"I've gotten use to this phrase, as Mark is a stone mason and loves to marvel at new finds. I made my way through the snow and he handed me a snow covered rock. I turned it over in my hand (honestly it was not that spectacular to me) and when I was done asked if I could throw it back into the snow. "Well at least read it before you do", he said.  "Read what?" I thought in my head, you don't read rocks. Mark brushed the snow off the rock and there engraved in the face of the rock was "will you marry me?" (AH HA!!! It was also starting to come together in my head; the reason why he was slower (he had a huge rock in his backpack) why he kept stalling (he had forgotten what he was going to say).

Before I had finished processing what was happening  Mark was down in the snow on one knee. Just as he started to propose I shifted my weight and without warning sunk in the snow so that we ended up nose to nose. Which is rather suiting because our whole philosophy is that we are a team, so how suiting that we should be nose to nose, eye to eye TOGETHER when we make our team "official".

From Stacey Foley…Natural, organic and ethereal weddings are becoming more and more popular so we wanted to create a shoot to inspire brides and allow them to find true beauty in something simple. The creative process started for me when I was contacted by Kelsey McIntyre of Kathryn Bass Bridal letting me know that she would be in Calgary for one day and had a trunk full of beauties available if I was interested. I jumped on the opportunity. Justine Milton, of Milton Photography, was the absolute perfect fit to capture it all. Her style is timeless, elegant and incredibly gorgeous.

I wanted to allow the colors and textures of the season to play a big part in the design and inspiration of this shoot so I incorporated red pears and pomegranates into the tablescape and Fleurish created for us the most stunning bouquet and centerpiece incorporating falls favourite flowers and fruits. Simple and beautiful stationery, created by Pink Umbrella Designs, was added as the perfect finishing touch.

Weddings are meant to be an expression of self, an incorporation of season and a beautiful look into what inspires the soul. This shoot was created to allow brides the opportunity to see that simple inspiration and beauty can come together to make pure magic!

Charbar Wedding

Cakes: Cake Bake Shoppe | Dress Shop: Pearl & Dot | Suit: espy Experience

A Few Words from Evelyn: The Calgary area is known for its majestic Mountain scenery and expansive natural space.  While the natural scenery surrounding Calgary is stunning, we wanted to highlight urban Calgary for a change.  Inspired by a combination of a New York City rooftop garden and a French Country garden, we created an intimate, relaxed setting where a modern couple celebrates their love over a great meal with close friends.

We created a dining area with casual, rustic wood tables, a long wood bench, dark Tuscan chairs and matte black flatware and stemware. These masculine elements were softened with French Country details like simple ivory linens and bright florals with trailing greenery vines to complete the tablescape. Instead of a traditional large cake, we opted for three small cakes with the barest of florals and vines. The calligraphed stationery pulled in the jewel-tone purples and pinks of our garden florals.

Keeping with the relaxed, urban theme, our bride wore an understated gown from Alexandra Grecco and kept her look fresh with effortless hair and makeup.  Our groom wore a textured suit instead of a more traditional suit or tux.  We let the florals be the showy element of their look, with a large bouquet composed of tons of tumbling, textured greenery and various roses.

Calligraphy: Art & Alexander | Hair & Makeup: Simply Me | Cake: Handmade Cake Company

As the air changes and the light hues of summer transition to the warm and rich tones of fall, so does the inspiration for a wedding. This shoot pays homage to an intimate, informal gathering with handcrafted touches. Blanketed with bespoke stationary, rich and earthy florals, and a touch of whimsy in a gold flecked cake and accessories, the shoot tributes a bride and groom inspired by the serene prairies. The use of greenery in the guests favours and handmade wreaths hung by the fire, allow this couple to marry their love of natural elements into their wedding. As a nod to the couple’s eclectic tastes, the candle holders portray a sense of their oddity and free spirits. Inspired by the natural tones of the season, this cozy styled shoot comes at a perfect transitional time between fall and winter.

A few words from the groom Matt: My bride and I first met about 8 years ago, through, um, well lets not say. She was the most beautiful person I had ever laid eyes on. We maintainted contact for a few years and then lost touch. Life carried on, and we met again a few years later through a chance encounter. And with a simple question of asking her to go to her first hockey game with me, my life was changed. We joke that life has a funny way of bringing people together when it's meant to be and that your life can change when you least expect it. Less than a year later I asked her to marry me.

We wanted our special day to be a small get together with family and a few close friends. We wanted it to have a classy and vintage feel and everything came together perfectly with a great location and fantastic vendors. We we able to add special touches to our day with having our neice and nephew play the piano for the processional and also for our first dance. We let them choose a song that they wanted, and it ended up being the same song that we had choose. And getting to announce during our ceremony our surprise that we are expecting was perfect.

We talked before our wedding that really it's only one day in our long life together, but it turned out to be such a special day and was great to be able to just enjoy and take it all in and we have loving memories and the day captured with beautiful photos.

A few words from Robyn, the bride: When we set our date, a lot of people told us we were crazy for planning a wedding that fast but we couldn't wait to get married! Every moment of our day was so special to us and we felt so blessed to be surrounded by so many people that believed in our love. When I got to the front of the aisle, my mom whispered to me, "he loves you so much", but I already knew that. As I looked up at Kyle, I couldn't wait to spend the rest of my life as his wife.
