From Alison about her's and Tyler's relationship and wedding: Tyler and I met while working at the Keg. I was in University for nursing, and he had just moved to Calgary working as an engineer, didn't know anyone so worked as a bartender to meet some new friends. We knew each other for 4 years, meanwhile dating other people. We ran into each other at beer fest in 2012, which sparked some interest but Tyler had dated a friend of mine so I refused to pursue the relationship. One year later at a curling bonspiel in Red Deer, I could no longer ignore my curiosity for this handsome man. We began dating shortly there after. I knew this guy had it all after taking some fantastic trips to Ireland, Scotland, Spain, and Mexico. We've also had amazing trips to San Francisco and San Diego where I began to share Tyler's love for football (sort of lol). We had been together for about 2 years before I began to drop some subtle, maybe less subtle hints about wanting to get married. August 27, 2015 after a dinner at notable the restaurant where he first asked me to be his girlfriend he asked me to be his wife while eating ice cream in Edworthy Park.

I've always dreamt of having a large wedding, and it was important for all of my family to be there so I searched a million and one venues. I chose willow lane barn because we had such a large guest list it really limited our choices, but it was perfect for us! It was a little different than your average hotel conference room and provided its own charm.

The wedding decorations were for the most part made by me friends or family. My dad made the tree cookies for center pieces and table number holders. I was amazed by how well my flowers turned out! Calyx Floral Design was amazing to work with! We also were incredibly impressed by our DJ, Local DJ. They provided the sound for the ceremony and were the last ones to leave! They had the dance floor full all night long.

We wanted the wedding to be stress free, which it was! My favorite part of the day was the speeches. It's amazing to hear your story being told by people you love. We were so lucky to have the weather we did because the night before had weather warnings about extreme tornado watch followed by a torrential downpour! It was the most incredible day, I wouldn't have changed a thing! We were surrounded by all of our favorite people! I would do it all over again!

A little bit about the wonderful couple:

I'm 27 years old born and raised in Calgary. I moved to Belleville Ontario to go to college where I met jimmy who was born in Germany from a polish family and moved to Canada and was raised in Aurora, Ontario.
We met the first week of college through roommates and instantly connected we became fast friends. After a couple months we realized we liked each other and started hanging out more one on one rather then the group setting you normally always find in college. We bonded over music, movies and sports. We dated for 3 months and i returned to Calgary for break and missed him quite a bit. When I went back to Ontario I stayed with his family for a weekend and we made the official boyfriend and girlfriend status. The first summer after college jimmy came and lived at my parents house for the summer. He did that every summer we were In college. After we graduated he managed to get a job at city TV in Calgary where he has been since this past May. Through the years we've gone on many road trips, concerts, camping adventures and travelling.
We got engaged last October when we took a three week vacation to Bali and Thailand he proposed to me the second week of our trip while in Ubud, Bali. I had saved up for this gorgeous private villa that overlooked the rice paddies with an infinity pool.
The whole proposal day was pretty awesome! I had been sick the day before so he found this American pub and we went and played pool and ate French fries and nachos while drinking American beer! Which I was pumped for since I had been so sick from the local cuisine ha :( when we returned to the villa it was covered in flower petals and Lilly's and there was a bottle of wine chilling! Which was a big deal because the wine is so expensive there and all I wanted to as a glass of wine the whole trip! So I actually thought jimmy was doing a nice romantic gesture! I was so excited about the wine I told him I would grab some tunes and a deck of  cards and we could drink the wine! He seemed confused and when I returned with the cards I said oh you haven't poured the wine yet? And he got down on his knee and proposed! I was pretty shocked ha it was a wonderful night with danced drank wine and swam. We didn't tell anyone until we got home and surprised my parents and had people over to tell them the news!

Shawnessy Barn Wedding

From the lovely bride:  The whole idea behind our wedding was to have a huge celebration of our love for one another and bring in the New Year with all of our friends and family. We wanted it to be very laid back and relaxed with games and ice hockey, and we really could not have been any happier with how it turned out! Steven and I are very adventurous and have a passion for being in nature, wether it is canoeing, kayaking, hiking, ski touring or fishing and hunting. We felt that it would be cool to bring that out in our wedding through writing our own vows and the overall décor of the wedding venue. Most of the decorations were hand made by myself and Steven using birch bark and pin cones collected from our various canoe trips to Churchill Rivers in Northern Saskatchewan, which was represented by a small canoe paddle displayed with the taboggan. The birch bark was used to wrap around mason jars and the pine cones for my bouquet and to hand from all of the chairs with twine rope. With that being said, we really wanted a DIY wedding not only because of our meager budget of $4,000 but to really represent whom we are as a couple. We also wanted our ceremony to involve all of our family and friends with the smudging ceremony and have it represent what it means to us. The smudging ceremony symbolizes the start of great new beginnings, it is a ritual that cleanses the mind, body and spirit. Recapping our wedding together, I think our favourite parts of the day were sharing our vows with one another surrounded by all our family and loved ones. The hockey and ice skating was awesome. It was great to get outside and play, that was half the fun of having a winter wedding. The poleroid Photo Booth with the silly props for our guest registry was ridiculously fun, we were able to capture some great moments and felt that it was a fun way to keep track of everyone who came out!  We loved the Go Pro mounted to a 40 ounce bottle of Appletons rum, it was used to film all of our guests partaking in the fun, plus we got some great footage of peoples grimacing faces. The vintage ski, donate by my grand-mother, reclaimed into a shot ski really represented our passion for the mountians. The Minute to Win It games to get Steven and I to kiss, the speeches our family and friends prepared for us and of course pigging out on all the Boston Pizza! I am sure we could just keep going on and on about the day and into the night, the count down to the New Year with fire works and sparklers, watching the fireworks and dancing till we couldn’t stand anymore.
