From Mona: Being your own boss and working from your home is one of the greatest feelings in the world. You get to make your own hours, you can plan time ahead for special occasions/vacations and not get turned down  but there are some downsides to this as well. Sometimes you can get in a funk when it comes to structure and feel “not so glamorous” working in your sweatpants everyday. I never wanted to feel like a slob kabob so I made it my mission to design a space that not only made me happy but would make me show up to work looking my best.

Being a wedding planner and designer I am constantly surrounded by all things gorgeous 24/7 when it comes to my beautiful clients so I like to stay inspired for them even when I am working from home. I have always been drawn to soft pastel inspired colors so I wanted to make sure that my office was surrounded in those hues. I am also obsessed with any and every kind of fashion magazine so I dedicated an entire wall for my favorite magazine covers!

In Full Bloom

As seen on Junebug Weddings

A few words from Mona of Birds & Honey: For this editorial I was inspired by the poetry of Rumi and the power of flowers coming into a beautiful state of bloom. This concept combined natural and bold tones. The stunning “Rose” gown from designer Lady Evelyn truly brought both of these elements to life, mixing soft and bold all into one. For the colors and overall vision I chose to feature romantic tones of blush, whites, and peaches, paired with bolder lilac and orange tones.

A few words about the shoot from Mona: A stunning setting and sunset light made for a magical shoot and a lot of pretty moments between this sweet couple. The forecast called for a downpour of rain but we ended up with was the most beautiful ray of light and just a drop of rain. It was a the perfect setting to capture a newly engaged couple. During their engagement session the two laughed and joked with one another while enjoying each other’s company. They chose a soft palette for their wardrobe which consisted of soft grays and golds which complimented the bright and bold bouquet created by Amy Sanderson. This session was the perfect way to welcome the beautiful summer season in Edmonton Alberta Canada.

Birds & Honey Business Cards DIY

As Seen On: Style Me Pretty | Best Friends for Frosting

Business Card Printing: Fort Heavy | Designer: Justine Ma
Stylist: Mona Abosaid from Birds & Honey

MATERIALS:

1. Your gorgeous fresh new business cards! P.S. – I would definitely recommend a much thicker card stock because these babies will bleed through if the cards are too thin. My cards were done via letter press and I chose the thickest type of card possible, but I have heard of many people who were happy using Moo or Jukebox print.

2. Acrylic paint. I used Martha Stewart Crafts Satin Paints (on sale at Micheal’s for $1.99 each – Score!!!)

3. Sponge brushes. You can get these in packs of 6 at the dollar store!

4. A lot of people use clamps, but I personally like just holding them tightly with my hands. So feel free to do it with or without!

5. Lots of newspaper to let your cards air out when they are drying.

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Get a decent stack of cards ready. I found that doing stacks of about 30 was good for me. If I put more than 30, the cards seemed to get stuck together. If you are using a clamp, make sure you get them together as tight as possible. I chose to go the clamp-less way because I felt like I was able to control the painting and drying times better this way. Remember, acrylic paint dries super fast so you want to separate these beauties as soon as possible. Also, don’t be alarmed that the top and bottom cards will get a little yucky in the mean time. I used the same ones over and over again for the top and bottom as to not waste others.

2. Once your stack is aligned and good to go gently stroke your sponge brush with the desired paint color a couple times. You should be able to get full coverage with just 2-3 strokes. Don’t over paint them as that will likely cause the paint to bleed through the cards.

3. Once all four sides are painted, give it just a couple minutes to dry. Please, please, pretty please, don’t forget about them once they’re drying! They literally just need a couple of minutes to dry before you take them apart. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to take the cards apart.

4. Take the cards a part one by one and let them air out nicely for about 20 minutes. I did this DIY with a girlfriend and one of us would do the painting while the other was doing the drying task. It honestly makes for such a great time and makes the process go by a whole lot faster than doing it all by yourself!

And that’s it lovelies! Easy peezie! Now you have the most gorgeous painted edges to go along with those beautiful business cards! And the plus…. all of the supplies come in under $7.00!

Ireland Bridal Session

Scans by: PhotoVision Prints | Design & Styling by: Birds & Honey & Ann Marie O’Leary
Floral Design by: Ann Marie O’Leary | Hair Styling by: Munster Mobile Hair
Makeup by: Kathryn O’Neil | Bridal Salon: Novelle Bridal | Veil & Headpiece: Twigs & Honey
Model: Stephanie Quilligan | Modelling Agency: 1st Option Management

From Birds & Honey: With Kilarney, Ireland as our backdrop, I wanted to create a design and aesthetic that consisted of a simplistic yet bold palette of fresh, luscious greenery; florals with hues of whites and ivories mixed with the most delicate touches of pale pink. Ireland is filled with so much grandeur and beauty, I really wanted to keep the design very simplistic and use our surroundings to capture it’s true beauty. We pulled the soft and organic details from the stunning one of a kind gowns that House of Delphine provided and the incredible floral’s that Ann Marie created. This truly made for an elegant and timeless design. This type of style would be perfect for a bride who is a lover of nature and the outdoors. She is the type of bride who prefers to be surrounded by beautiful blooms and appreciates the way the natural elements all incorporate themselves into her day. The subtle pale pink details truly add to the femininity and ethereal vibe of this editorial

We also wanted to incorporate some of Hafez’s Poetry:

“And still, after all this time, the Sun has never said to the Earth,
“You owe me.”
Look what happens with love like that.
It lights up the sky.”

It doesn’t get sweeter than than nature mixed with some of the worlds most beautiful poetry.

The power of the written word

From Mana Abosaid of Birds & Honey: In a day and age where people are glued to their phones and computers, the art of the written word has slowly faded further and further away. I wanted to create something that showcased how beautiful this art still is. The art of letter writing is just as important today than it was hundreds of years ago as it reveals something about your personality that a machine can’t. Your style of handwriting, choice of ink and paper all say something about you as an individual. Handwritten love letters are more personal and meaningful, too. Just the thought of someone taking time out of their busy day to sit down and write onto paper the poetry of their heart is truly magical.
