Drugs With Life Set Sail

From Brittany: I’m sure if you’re a blogger/photographer/anything of the sort I’m sure you’ll have a bucket list of places you want to photograph, well, the Parker Palm Springs was on ours!
The iconic “DRUGS” sign has been photographed by some of my favourite bloggers around the world, so I can’t even explain how excited I was to finally be able to capture it. I’ve heard that it’s actually an old pharmacy sign, can anyone shed some light on this?

Life Set Sail & Show Me Your Mumu

A few words from Brittany: Ever since I bought my first Show Me Your Mumu piece (yes this is the name of a brand), I’ve been obsessed…and I think it’s safe to say everyone else has too! Whenever I wear this romper I always get compliments on it, and why not? It’s so much fun!

Let’s be honest, it’s basically my life goal to end up living somewhere that I can get away with not wearing pants. If I could just frolic about in stylish two piece sets I totally would. The thing I love about these types of outfits is that you don’t have to worry about any sort of pairings, just toss on a couple simple pieces of jewellery, some sneakers and your good to go!

As Seen On: Style Me Pretty

A few words from Brittany Messner of Life Set Sail who has partnered with Drybar to bring you an easy how-to for one of this seasons hottest trends, exposed bobby pins.

There are so many ways to pull of this trend, but I’ll get into that later! For now you can follow the step-by-step guide on how to recreate the look above at home.

1. Part hair to side and apply a heat protectant. I used Hot Toddy, which is a lightweight heat and UV protectant.

2. Curl one inch sections of hair away from your face and allow to cool. For loose, tousled curls I love the 3 Day Bender 1″ Barrel Digital Curling Iron for it’s easy to use rotating barrel and fast heat up/cool down time.

3. Finger comb hair to break up curls.

4. Mist hair with salt spray. The Mai Tai Spritzer does a phenomenal job of creating added texture and volume…oh yah, and it smells incredible.

5. Pull back bang heavy side and pin. You can do this whichever way you like, but for this particular look I’ve gone for three X’s. If you want them even it’s easiest to pin each one side of each X first before crossing over with the other side.

6. Finish with a light-hold hairspray like the Money Maker Flexible Hold Hairspray to keep unwanted frizz at bay.

Optional: If you’d rather go for a smooth, less textured look you can skip the salt spray/hairspray and create a glossy finish with the Sparkling Soda Shine Mist.

Not into so many steps? This would be a perfect last minute style for back-to-school by skipping the curling iron – and don’t worry about getting the pins to sit evenly as this style looks great with random placing as well.

Life Set Sail's 5 Favourite Lip Sticks

Scans By: Photo Vision Prints | Top: c/o paper crown | Earrings: Sweet and Spark (Vintage Weiss) | Fashion & Beauty Blogger Brittany Messner of Life Set Sail

A few words from Brittany Messner about her favourite lipsticks: The lipsticks selected in todays post are featured not only because the shades are both classic and unique but they are all hydrating and feel light on the lips as well, whether they are matte, sheer, or satin. After all, if the makeup you wear doesn’t make you feel comfortable in your own skin then why wear it at all?

For the nude lover out there, the Clarins Joli Rouge Lipstick in Tea Rose is a great place to start. The Clarins lip products are some of my favourites out there because of how easy they are to wear. They glide on effortlessly, are hydrating, and look and smell amazing!

For the quintessential Fall/Winter shade I’ve selected the Bite Beauty’s Sugared Maple which was a part of the Canadian Maple Matte Crème collection and unfortunately now a little hard to find. However, the shade Mulled Wine is very similar and also a great option for those after the perfect berry lip. You can also keep an eye out for the Frozen Berries collection to come back in stock if you’re still after that matte finish, but keep in mind that Bite’s version of matte is not true matte (more on the creamy side).

The classic girl will love my deep, true red selection. The Make Up For Ever Rouge Artist Intense in shade 8 is one that I’ve been wearing on repeat. If you’re interested in a step by step guide on creating a long lasting, flawless red lip you can check out my tutorial here.

Matte lovers will adore Urban Decay’s Matte Revolution offerings which are, hands down, the best matte’s I’ve ever tried. If, like me, you suffer from dry skin then you are definitely going to want to pick up a few of these! The formula is hydrating and wont cling (too much) to your dry spots. Finally a matte lipstick I can get on board with! I’m a fan of many shades, but have a bit of a soft spot for the purply hue of Bittersweet.

Lastly I’ve really been enjoying an old favourite, Rosy by Bobbi Brown. While it’s not a classic shade for this time of year, it’s pinky-orange hue compliments most complexions while giving a subtle pop of colour too. I love how light and sheer it feels even while the formula is quite opaque.

A few words from Brittany of Life Set Sail:

WHITE FOR WEDDINGS?
Today I’m bringing you the second instalment of my work with the CrossIron Mills Style Panel. The theme I’ve gone for this time is, you guessed it, wedding attire. But we’re going to put a little spin on things here and talk about whether or not it’s okay to wear white for weddings. I encourage you to weigh in in the comments below. I’d love to hear what everyone has to say on the topic!

I think there are numerous ways you can wear white to a wedding without standing out (or ticking off the bride). You can sport a white based print, opt for pants instead of a dress, pile on the accessories, etc. I think all these ways are fairly acceptable when attending someone else’s wedding, but that’s not what I’m here to talk about. For example, would you wear solid white to someone else’s wedding? Personally, I wouldn’t take the risk. As a married woman I know first hand how fragile a brides emotions can be on her wedding day and I, for one, would not want to be the one to push her over the edge.

Sure, some brides may be a lot more modern than others, but if you are hell bent on wearing your white dress to her wedding you’d better ask first! I brought up this topic with our friend who’s getting married in September and although both her and her bridesmaids will be wearing white she still wants it to remain a special shade reserved strictly for the wedding party.

For those of you that are brave enough, I’ve put together an effortlessly chic outfit, that you can wear to your next Summer wedding, with three easy pieces.

I picked up my dress from H&M, which is a simple wrap style that buttons up the front. Though it’s no longer available on the website, I think that this wide blouse would make an excellent alternative paired with a belt. For accessories I’ve kept things very low key with the Joelle Soft Pebble Leather Crossbody from Danier (currently on sale). To top off my look I added a pop of colour with these Yellow Forquer High Heels from Aldo (on sale for half off).

My entire outfit can be found at CrossIron Mills for under $250. I love that because I chose a simple, cheaper dress to work with that I was able to splurge a bit on good quality accessories which I will be able to wear year round. A big thank you to my girl Anneke Forbes for helping me pull pieces for this look.
