A few words from Carrie: It’s actually kind of crazy how Jordan & I met. At the time, I was living in Saskatoon and he was from Calgary. With his job, he travels all over and works depending on where they get a contract, so he was working in Saskatoon for about 2 months. It was my best friend’s birthday and she wanted to go out, and I really didn’t want to, but ended up going since it was her birthday and couldn’t say no. Similarly, Jordan ended up coming to the same place, and he never really went there before either. I ended up meeting Jordan that night, and am so thankful that my friend made me come with her. It just happened to be that we were both at the right place at the right time. We connected right away, and I knew that there was something different about him. Shortly after we met, he had to move back to Calgary but we thought we would give it a try and stay together to see how things worked out. No matter how hard it became, we just couldn’t let each other go, and I’m so glad that we didn’t because we’ve come such a long way and I couldn’t imagine my life any other way. I feel like we give hope to other couples who have struggled with long distance since we’ve dealt with it for years and have made it through! Having a long distance relationship for the first number of years through our relationship has made us stronger, and after surviving that, I feel like we can make it through anything together.

Jordan asked me to marry him on August 2, 2014, and it was the best day of my life! We went to Calgary for the weekend to look for a place to live. We ended up going to a fancy hotel to stay overnight, and I told Jordan we didn’t have to stay there and that it was too expensive, but he wouldn’t hear it. When we got to our room, they had champagne waiting for us and I didn’t know why everything was so fancy. I kind of had a feeling that maybe Jordan was going to propose that night, so when he didn’t I was disappointed. The next day, we went looking at houses all day and then after, we went to eat at Matador’s – a restaurant that he grew up going to and that was his family’s go-to place. After we finished eating supper, he pulled out a ring and asked me to marry him! I was so shocked & excited! After we left the restaurant, we drove down to Lethbridge for a family reunion for Jordan’s side, and this was the best part of everything! It was so nice to be with family to celebrate and share the happiness for the rest of the weekend! Everyone was extremely happy for us and it just made the weekend that much better!
